Evaluation of Maturity in Early-Maturing Wild Male Salmon
Evaluation of Maturity in Early-Maturing Wild Male Salmon
Using ultrasound technology, we identify early maturity stages in wild male salmon, commonly known as "parr mature" and "Jack".
Male salmon have developed diverse reproductive strategies in response to their freshwater and saltwater ecosystems. Early ultrasound assessments allow us to investigate hypotheses about factors influencing these strategies.
Benefits
Precise Identification of Early-Maturing Males
Early and accurate detection of precocious males.
Understanding Reproductive Factors
Enhances understanding of factors behind early maturation.
Resource Optimization and Conservation
Efficient resource usage and improved conservation practices.
Reduced Negative Impacts
Minimizes negative impacts on wild populations.

How We Do It
Before using ultrasound directly to assess the maturity status in male and female salmon of various species, we developed multiple correlations between qualitative and quantitative ultrasound parameters to evaluate specimen maturity.
These correlations are based on extensive data and diverse scenarios, enabling us to establish detailed procedures for sampling and data analysis.
